Drive-Time Radio: A Collision of Passions

When I got the call on Monday to fill in on Drive Time Jazz, I took a gamble that the World Series would be history by air time. No such luck.

This will be the first time I've covered this coveted slot, so I'm pretty excited about it. I'll be able to follow the game online for the last half hour of my shift, and with some creative logistics, be able to see the end of the game. Feels kind of funny to almost be hoping for another rain delay.

I've had tickets to 57 baseball games so far this year, and I've played in 11 hardball games in my adult league. That's a big part of why I haven't been on the air much lately. While it's tough to have two (or more) passions, I did manage to find a fill-in spot this Thursday, so I jumped at it.

20th Anniversary Show!

This is kind of a big show for me. It was May 7, 1987 when my trembling voice was first heard cracking over the airwaves, fulfilling my long-held dream of being a DJ.

Saturday will be my 823rd show, and it marks 20 years in community radio. I'm very proud that every single moment of my radio career has been as a volunteer.

It's doesn't happen often in life, but it's been my good fortune that the reality has been even better than the fantasy.

KUVO -- my radio home -- is kicking of it's annual Fall Membership Drive on Thursday, February 23. I've been asked to come in and help with the festivities, so I'll be on the air Thursday night -- not doing my usual music show, but acting as a "pledge buddy" on the regular host's program.

The only way community radio stays on the air is through the support of the people who listen and care enough to pony up a bit. If you'd be so inclined, I'd be extremely grateful.

Switching Hosts - Potential Glitches

I'm in the process of switching DruglessDouglas.com from one host to another. It's gone pretty smoothly, but there are always glitches in these moves. Pages may not load or function, email bounces, etc. The end result, however, should be good for all of us.
